A note from Caroline

Hello and thank you for visiting my web site. I grew up in Brighton on the south coast of England and always wanted to write in one form or another. At first there were books to adorn the dollhouse bookshelves and tales for family on their birthdays, then in my teens it was advertising copyright and ideas for television that I sent off with naïve enthusiasm as I grew more serious about sharing stories. Since then, I’ve moved across the world and worked as a writer, producer and director in a range of genres in Europe, North America and Australasia before studying creative writing when I took a career break to have kids. This included an MA in Creative Writing at UTS, learning the craft of novel writing at the Faber Academy in Sydney and with Curtis Brown Creative in London. My first manuscript was rejected by several agents before finding a home with Allen & Unwin, who continue to publish my novels in Australia and New Zealand. My books have also been published by Ebury Press in the UK and by G. P. Putnam’s Sons in North America.

I live in Sydney with my husband and two teenage sons and enjoy travelling around Australia, immersing in its incredible and varied landscape and cultures. Home and where I write is on beautiful Sydney Harbour; Gadigal Land, and I acknowledge the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the Country. I also love to travel back to the UK to see family and friends as well as to research my books. I’m currently developing a drama based on Esther’s Children and trawling libraries and bookshops researching my fifth novel.

Whether you’re an aspiring writer, a historical fiction fan or an avid reader, I hope you’ve enjoyed discovering some of the fascinating true stories and real people that have inspired me, and if there’s anything else you want to know, then please don’t hesitate to get it touch.

Very best wishes,

Caroline
